Within the Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging programme Ruth is an education focused lecturer that is responsible for the clinical studies components across all four year levels. She concentrates on developing and maintaining the partnerships with different external stakeholders such as clinical centres in metropolitan and regional areas and government initiatives e.g. VicPlace in a variety of ways. The focus of her role allows her to be a visible interface and contact between the clinical educators and the undergraduate students. This is achieved by undertaking regular liaison face to face and teleconferencing with new technology platforms for interactive meetings during clinical placement. In addition she is the chairperson for the regular quarterly clinical studies meetings held on campus with the clinical tutors and supervisors.
Thankfully Ruth maintains her own clinical practice as a team member within a hospital network. This enables ongoing insight where improvements to bridge the tension between the clinical and academic divide are possible. Currently she is taking the lead in managing the conversion of the extensive paper based clinical workbooks to an online licensed system. This has involved running workshops and developing applied resources such as information packages.
Ruth also contributes to the research projects and literature reviews offered in year four of the undergraduate course on topics of clinical relevance such as different technology use in simulation and e-portfolios. This enables her to further develop her own research areas of interest in clinical assessment and reflective practice.
