Dr Uschi Bay, BSW (University of Melbourne), MSW (University of Melbourne), PhD (RMIT University) is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Medicine at Monash University. Prior to her appointment at Monash University, she was an academic at Deakin University and Southern Cross University in Northern New South Wales. Uschi was a foundation member at Southern Cross University and developed curriculum in the areas of counselling, social welfare, social enquiry, social policy and community development. She has also worked as a senior manager in higher education in the area of equity policy at Victoria University and in Student Services at RMIT University. Her research interest is in social work's role in ecological and social sustainability of communities. She has undertaken research with the Desert Knowledge Co-operative Research Centre in Alice Springs on desert settlement sustainability and on coastal settlement sustainability at Deakin University. Her current research is on biopolitics, ecological social work and emotions in social change processes, specifically in relation to community responses to climate disruptions. Her publications include: Social Work Practice: A conceptual Framework (2014, Palgrave Macmillan), Social Work in Rural Australia: enabling practice with Jane Maidment (2012, Allen and Unwin)
