An intervention to optimise the physical and sensory early childhood education and care environment to support children’s social and emotional development

Andrea Tamblyn is a PhD Candidate in the Health and Social Care Unit. Andrea’s PhD project explores the influence that the physical and sensory environment, in early childhood education and care settings, has on preschool children’s social and emotional development.

This project is informed by multiple systematic literature reviews, and captures the voice of early childhood educators through in-depth interviews to understand how children engage and interact with their education environment.

Andrea has partnered with bestchance Child Family Care to co-design a program with early childhood professionals. The program will aim to support preschool children’s social and emotional growth by optimising the physical education environment and the sensory stimuli it generates, and consider the needs of the program recipients: early childhood educators.
