Alexander Theatre Specifications
A much loved foundation building of the university, the 561 seat Alexander Theatre has recently reopened following a major revitalisation as part of of the $50 million development of The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts.
Completed in April 2018, the project has delivered a state of the art proscenium arch venue with a vast range of improvements for both audiences and performers. These include:
– Improved accessibility throughout the venue
– Sophisticated dressing room space and backstage facilities
accommodating up to 300 people backstage
– Inclusion of an active acoustic sound system delivering world’s
best practice in acoustic sound performance
– Automated stage flying system
– Industry standard sound and lighting equipment
The Alexander Theatre heralds a new era of 21st century performing arts facilities at the Clayton campus and will be joined by the Sound Gallery and Jazz Club in early 2019. Together they will further enhance Monash’s commitment to supporting growth in the performing arts in Melbourne’s south-east by providing state-of-the-art facilities to world class professional productions, students, community groups, schools and local residents.

Alexander Theatre Location
Parking is generally unrestricted on weeknights and weekends*. During normal University hours, most parking areas are permit parking only with some ‘Pay and Display’ metered parking areas available to visitors. Metered parking areas can be paid by coin, credit card and the paybyphone app. We recommend visitors to observe parking rules signage carefully to avoid penalties.
There are dedicated parking bays for disability parking permit holders in all the car parks. If the disabled parking bays are full, you can then park in any red, yellow or blue permit spaces. Please ensure you display your disability parking permit.
‘Pay and Display’ parking is available in SE1, SE3 (64 Scenic Boulevard) and off-campus at OC1 (Corner Wellington/Blackburn Road). These are the recommended car parks when visiting Clayton Campus venues during University hours.
For Alexander Theatre, the closest unrestricted parking on weeknights and weekends is S2 underground parking off Ancora Imparo Way.
Alexander Theatre is located approximately 2 minutes walk from the Monash University/Wellington Road bus interchange.
Bus – Monash University/Wellington Road bus interchange is service by the following buses operated by Ventura.

Train – Huntingdale and Clayton Stations are the closest train stations to Monash University’s Clayton Campus. There are buses that connect these train stations and the Monash University/Wellington Road bus interchange.
Monash Academy of Performing Arts is committed to accommodate the needs of persons with mobility requirements. There is lift access to seating areas dedicated to persons requiring mobility assistance in the Alexander Theatre.
