George Jenkins Theatre Specifications
The George Jenkins Theatre is an intimate 426 seat venue ideal for plays, dance, concerts and conferences. Versatile stage access and five dressing rooms allow for movement of large casts while the seating configuration makes the venue equally ideal for conferences, and lectures.
A large thrust stage with ample wing space on either side of the stage and a cross over at the rear, house curtain and additional traveller curtains at mid-stage and rear. Stage access can be made from side of stage as well as via two vomitories under the seating bank.
Lighting and sound are available for one or two night events, providing for smaller organisations and functions, while a full lighting design can also be accommodated for extended theatre seasons. There are four dressing rooms and a green room/rehearsal room available.
The theatre is fully accessible via a lift in the foyer and removable seats allow for up to four wheelchairs to be accommodated.
A fully licensed cafe is connected to the foyer and services patrons pre-show, at interval and post-show if required. For your opening night or after-show party, we can provide a drinks and refreshment service.

May – December 2019: Construction on Peninsula Campus.

From May to December 2019, Monash University is undertaking a major construction project on its Peninsula campus. Every effort has been made to minimise the impact on patrons attending events at the George Jenkins Theatre. During this time, entry to the theatre is via its western entrance only (entrance facing Moorooduc Highway). To reach this entrance, follow the footpath adjacent to the theatre’s loading dock. This entrance is wheelchair accessible. The closest parking area for the George Jenkins Theatre during this period is the N1 carpark. Flipboard Cafe (in the marquee adjacent to the bus stop) is open for performances; providing food and beverage services. There are toilets next to Building C, opposite the George Jenkins Theatre’s western entrance.
Parking is generally unrestricted on weeknights and weekends*. During normal University hours, most parking areas are permit parking only with some ‘Pay and Display’ metered parking areas available to visitors. Metered parking areas can be paid by coin, credit card and the paybyphone app. We recommend visitors to observe parking rules signage carefully to avoid penalties.
There are dedicated parking bays for disability parking permit holders in all the car parks. If the disabled parking bays are full, you can then park in any red, yellow or blue permit spaces. Please ensure you display your disability parking permit.
For George Jenkins Theatre, the closest unrestricted parking on weeknights and weekends is N1 (North 1). This car park is a ‘Pay and Display’ car park during normal University hours and is unrestricted weeknights and weekends.
Bus 887 connects Frankston Station to the Monash University Peninsula Campus bus interchange which is directly outside our George Jenkins Theatre.
The following Ventura buses stop at the corner of Moorooduc and Hastings Roads. This bus stop is approximately 10 minutes walking distance from our George Jenkins Theatre.

Frankston Station is the closest train station to Monash University’s Peninsula Campus. Bus 887 connects Frankston Station to the Monash University Peninsula Campus bus interchange which is directly outside our George Jenkins Theatre.
Stony Point line train runs between Stony Point and Frankston stations and stops at Leawarra station, a short walk from campus, but only runs every two hours.
Monash Academy of Performing Arts is committed to accommodate the needs of persons with mobility requirements. The George Jenkins Theatre has access via a lift located in the theatre foyer. Ramp access to the main entrance of the theatre is between George Jenkins Theatre and Building A.
