The Sacred Veil

Eric Whitacre

Join us for the Australian premiere of Eric Whitacre’s new work, The Sacred Veil. The Grammy-winning composer is conducting two performances of this moving piece, which premiered at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Los Angeles Master Chorale in 2019. The 12-movement work, written with poet and long-time collaborator Charles Anthony Silvestri, tells a true story of love, loss, grief and the search for solace.

In his exclusive Australian appearance, Whitacre is joined by the Choir of Trinity College and Polyphonic Voices, along with cellist, Rosanne Hunt and pianist, Rhodri Clarke.

The Sacred Veil isn’t for the faint of heart. The nearly hour-long score opens up a psychological and emotional space where love and loss become intimate companions.’ – Rick Shultz, Los Angeles Times

From Tuesday 7 to Thursday 9 April, drop into the David Li Sound Gallery for a free screening of Deep Field. You can also join Whitacre in his choral workshop on Tuesday 7 April.

The Sacred Veil was co-commissioned by the Los Angeles Master Chorale and the Monash Academy of Performing Arts.
