The Young King
PART OF FAMILY FIESTA – A WEEKEND OF EVENTS
‘This is Game of Thrones, The NeverEnding Story and Pan’s Labyrinth rolled into one for families. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so immersed in a show.’ – Audience member at Carousel Theatre for Young People, Granville Island, Vancouver, BC.
A naive boy raised by goat herds is discovered to be heir to the kingdom. Treasures and privileges are laid at his feet, but at what cost to others? Based on the tender short story by Oscar Wilde, The Young King is a coming-of-age story that grapples with the ethics of beauty, capitalism and leadership. Adapted for the stage by Nicki Bloom and directed by Andy Packer, The Young King invites the little audience to make their own crowns before the show and uses onstage interactivity to give children a stake in the story and to keep them engaged. What kind of king will you be?
Please note: The session at 10.00am on Friday 5 July is a relaxed performance and will be Auslan interpreted.

‘Expect pass-the-parcel, audience participation and role-playing, but there is nothing juvenile about this production. The attention to detail is phenomenal… The Young King is charming, majestic and utterly delightful.’
