Take One Step
Take One Step is a digital engagement platform developed by the Monash Sustainable Development Institute and Monash University’s Office for Learning & Teaching. The platform aims to engage and educate students on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). What can one person do to help achieve these goals?
A lot, actually. It’s in everyone’s power to start by changing ONE habit in their lives.
This online platform will enable you to:
- Challenge your own pre-existing values.
- Learn more about the SDGs and share solutions to global challenges via individual action and commitment.
- Pledge one action you can take to contribute to a better world and make an SDG-inspired change in your life.
- Join like minded people and share your progress with the community.
- Make a difference on issues you care about, like climate change, over-consumption and inequality.
Is this for you?
Take One Step connects people who want to make a difference in the world through local action and online learning. If you want to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs and lead by example, this is for you.
Over the past few years, Take One Step has generated considerable interest amongst the PRME Champion Business School network, with a number of institutions expressing an interest in using the tool in their own programs. It was also showcased at the ACTS National Conference in 2017, garnering considerable interest. Many people and organisations across the world are already undertaking innovative programs in support of the SDGs.

History of the course
The Sustainable Development Goals were launched in 2015 and are a shared global framework of development priorities to 2030, signed onto by all world governments. These Global Goals aim to end poverty, promote wellbeing, fight inequality and address climate change. The 17 goals and 169 targets reflect an ambitious commitment to transform our world for the better by 2030. All groups and communities, including business and international bodies, are taking action.
Take One Step was established in 2015 to help individuals take specific actions as a way to promote action for achieving the SDGs. In 2016 it was delivered as a pilot for first and second year students in the Monash Business School. It was designed to improve student understanding of the SDGs and how they apply to business.
