'A woman is closest to being naked when she is well-dressed' - Coco Chanel.
In this discussion, Paola Di Trocchio and Adele Varcoe will explore the psychology of fashion, focussing on the boundary between the body and clothing as highlighted through fashion’s ongoing practice of covering and uncovering the body. The conversation will include a focus on Chanel garments from the NGV’s International Fashion and Textiles collection, together with the role of the viewer’s imagination in fashion.
