Ground Floor, Building F
Monash University, Caulfield Campus
$10 /// SOLD OUT
Introduction by Ronnie van Hout, 6.30pm
After-hours access to MUMA exhibition, 5:30 - 6:30pm

MUMA is hosting an after-hours intergalactic, supernatural, double-feature, retro sci-fi movie night to celebrate Monash WinterFest and our new exhibition Robert Smithson: Time Crystals.

Smithson (1938–73) incorporated sci-fi imagery in his many iconic artworks and worked on a number of unrealised, sci-fi-themed projects (including a documentary film on flying saucers), finding within science fiction a significant point of reference for his own artistic ideas. MUMA will celebrate Smithson’s sci-fi fandom with a back-to-back screening of two of the artist’s favourite films The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) and X: The Man with the X-ray Eyes (1963). These films will be introduced by artist, Ronnie van Hout, who will offer insights into the links between Smithson’s practice and sci-fi theory.

Tickets: $10 Click here to purchase
Includes an out-of-this-world gourmet hot dog or paranormally delicious haloumi taco, plus a drink and extra-terrestrial Loving Earth chocolate bar, as well as an old-school sci-fi double feature and after-hours access to MUMA’s exhibition Robert Smithson: Time Crystals.

Competition! Come dressed in your best vintage-futuristic sci-fi gear. Bust out a roll of aluminium foil, we’re talking shiny space-suits, robots and aliens. Prizes will be awarded for the most intergalactic, paranormal, or just outright weird retro-space-aged outfits.

Prizes generously donated by: Loving Earth, Dinosaur Designs, MUMA Bookshop, Monash MLive, Zambrero, Classic Cinema and Melbourne Cinematheque.
