Aorta - Aneurism
Clinical History
The specimen represents an incidental finding at post mortem of a male aged 60 years. It consists of the arch and part of the descending aorta opened posteriorly.
Pathology
The specimen shows large, multiple atheromatous and forms plaques. The anterior wall of the arch appears thin and forms part of a fusiform aneurism. The descending aorta shows a larger saccular aneurism filled with thrombotic material with a layered appearance. The wall of the lower part of this aneurism is markedly attenuated and a thin layer of atheromatous material seen on its inner surface.
