Qiaoliang Bao is currently an Associated Professor at Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Monash University. His research interests include synthesis and optical characterization of two-dimensional materials as well as their incorporation into photonic and optoelectronic devices. He has authored or co-authored more than 130 refereed journal articles with more than 13,000 total citations.

Bao is working on the project entitled with “Graphene-based Optical Sensors for Construction Materials” on this ARC Research Hub. The aim of this project is to establish a versatile optical sensing platform based on graphene which will form a basis for extensive collaborations with the best researchers in materials, chemistry, biology, environment and mining. The innovation technology will not only provide fundamental understanding on the interactions between graphene and light but also deliver a practical optical sensing platform for high accuracy and rapid detection of a wide range of physical parameters such as stress, heat and vibration, especially if present very low variations of these parameters in construction materials.
