Is starting your own company an accident or is it something that's planned?

In partnership with Monash Alumni Engagement, we are hosting an exclusive event with four startup Founders whose journey started as a student at Monash.

They all studied with the intention to land a good career but found themselves drawn to an entrepreneurial pathway as plan A, B, C and D changed.

'Plan E: When entrepreneurship comes calling' will reflect on the leap into self employment and the path that took each of these Monash Alumni to found their own company.

Be inspired as these four entrepreneurs share stories of aspirations, international success, passion pitfalls and true grit in this one-off event.

George McEncroe - Founder of Shebah (BA, 1991)
After juggling a number of roles as an ABC radio presenter, stand-up comedian and mother of four, George McEncroe decided to join Uber as a driver but backed out after feeling the risks for female drivers were too great. This inspired her to found Shebah, an all womens ride sharing service. The service was launched earlier this year and is set to grow nationally over the next 18-months.

Karl Redenbach - CEO and Co-Founder of LiveTiles (BA 1999, LLB 2000)
When you look at the coloured squares in MyMonash, you are looking at LiveTiles, a startup created by Monash Arts and Law Alumni Karl Redenbach. Since launching in October 2013, LiveTiles is used by some of the world's largest brands including Nike, Siemens and Best Buy. LiveTiles recently hosted four Monash students on a summer internship at their head office in New York City.

Anna Donaldson - Founder of Lively (BA (Deans Scholars Program) 2013)
Lively is a startup that supports young people to develop core work skills by connecting them to the elderly to help them learn about modern technology. Anna earned her Arts degree from Monash and was involved in helping students launch social enterprises though the Oxfam Monash Innovators program.

Simon Bird - Chairman of WeGift (BCom (Mgmt) 2000)
Simon is an entrepreneur and tech start-up investor. Having graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing, Simon's expertise in affiliate marketing and loyalty programs lead him to London, UK. He's now Chairman of WeGift, a UK based startup disrupting the gift card sector.
