Monash an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality
Monash University has again been recognised as a pace setter in gender equality after being named an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality for 2016, in Brisbane today.
The Workplace Gender Equality Agency citation recognises the University’s commitment to improving gender equality in the workplace and fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AO said she was delighted Monash had once again been named an employer of choice for gender equality in recognition of its commitment to achieving a diverse and inclusive environment.
“As a leading research and teaching organisation, achieving gender equality is central to our vision. This award encourages the ongoing commitment across the entire Monash community to support gender equality,” Professor Gardner said.
Monash has a very strong focus on helping women advance in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) disciplines. The University is an inaugural member of the SAGE pilot of the Athena SWAN accreditation program, which provides a framework and awards in recognition of institutional capacity to eliminate gender inequity. Monash was also one of the first Australian tertiary institutions to achieve White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation.
