After a fantastic result at the 2012 Australian University Games (AUG), TeamMONASH™ is looking to take home top honours at the 2013 AUG on the Gold Coast.

The 2012 AUG saw TeamMONASH™ finish second overall, with 39 sport teams achieving a top four finish. The impressive medal tally consisted of 10 gold, 10 silver and six bronze, and a record 64 students were selected for Green and Gold (best player in the sport) honours.

Director of TeamMONASH™, Martin Doulton, said on behalf of the almost 600-strong squad of students, participants and support crew attending the AUG, TeamMONASH™ is ready to rumble.

“Each year TeamMONASH™ participates in highly competitive sport against the 40 other tertiary institutions that compete in the AUG. We’ve won the champion title in 2008 and 2009 and have narrowly come runner up in the last three years,” Mr Doulton said.

“We have a long, proud and successful history, which has prepared us well to take on any challenge the other universities will throw at us, and that inspires us to aim to regain our rightful place at the top of the medal tally.”

TeamMONASH™ athletes train hard and compete harder with the aim of bringing gold back to Melbourne soil, with teams consisting of both first-timers and AUG veterans.

Last year the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams both won gold, and are looking to take out the trophy again.

Football is also pegged to be an event to keep an eye on, with the men taking home the gold and women the silver in 2012.

“Being part of TeamMONASH™ gives us an edge over all our competition in terms of our legendary team spirit,” Mr Doulton said.

“We are made up of 580 student athletes and support crew. We are playing in 31 sports. While we have strength in numbers and high quality participants, the one thing we know about TeamMONASH™ is we work as a single unit and this gives us a real edge over our rivals.”
