Monash Library is proud to host the exhibition at Clayton campus to commemorate Jane Austen’s 200th anniversary this year. Jane Austen: By A Lady explores the life, times and books of Jane Austen.
Originally showcased by the City of Melbourne at The Library at the Dock, the exhibition features rare Austen items from Emeritus Professor Chris Browne’s personal collection, complemented by other works from the Regency period in England from the Monash Rare Books Collection.
A collaboration between Prof Browne and colleagues in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, the exhibition features innovative content designed by the Master of Multimedia Design students to transport the visitor back to the history, culture, geography and lifestyle of the late 18th and early 19th century.
New interactive elements will also feature, in partnership with the Monash Immersive Visualisation Platform. Visitors can use the Virtual Reality headset for an immersive experience, and the touch tables and Surface Books to interact with exhibition content.
