All Monash staff are invited to register for a Mindfulness for stress and mental health

When

Date:19/02/2019

Time: 12:00-1:00

Location: S12, 16 Rainforest Walk
Program Description

Mindfulness can be described as a form of meditation but also a way of living and working. One of the main reasons for the rise of interest in mindfulness in this fast-paced, high-pressure modern world is because of its ability to help people to manage stress and enhance mental and emotional wellbeing. This interactive and experiential presentation will explore how mindfulness meditation and a series of simple cognitive strategies based on mindfulness can help reduce stress and foster greater resilience and better mental health.

General Health

All Monash staff are invited to register for a Vocal health and Singing program at the Clayton campus

Date:12,19,26 March 2,9,16 April No class on Easter Tuesday  30th April 7 May

Time: 1:00-2:00

Location: Learning and Teaching Building, 19 Ancora Imparo Way, Room 303
Program Description

This series of voice group lessons serves as an introduction to evidence based voice training applied in an explorative learning environment and small group choir singing. Over the course of the 8 weeks, participants will develop individual strategies to improve daily vocal fitness, maintain vocal hygiene, respond better to challenging daily vocal tasks, such as lecturing and coaching, and finally improve their singing skills when applying it in a choir setting.

Class session plan

  • Week One: - The Human Instrument
  • Week Two: - Controlling Length and Width
  • Week Three: - Controlling the “Reed”
  • Week Four: - The Articulators
  • Week Five: - Posture and Presence
  • Week Six: - Vocal Hygiene and Vocal Fitness
  • Week Seven: - Dealing with Performance Anxiety
  • Week Eight: - Just Sing

The first sessions will focus more on control and technique to ensure a good foundation for your daily voice use, while suggesting practical training exercises. As we progress through the sessions, more and more time will be applied on music and singing in an ensemble, as it serves as a great application for efficient voice use.
