Diabetes Week 2019
Diabetes is a growing concern in Australia - currently affecting two million people. Recent data shows that 280 Australians develop diabetes every day, that’s one person every five minutes!
To support Diabetes Week (14th-20th of July) Monash Wellbeing and Monash Sport will be offering free Staff Wellbeing Activity Program (SWAP) physical activity classes at the Clayton, Caulfield and Peninsula campuses. We want to make the step towards a healthier lifestyle easy for the Monash community by eliminating barriers such as cost, time and inconvenience and bringing them direct to you. Did you know that 55% of us are at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes? Check your risk here. If exercise classes aren’t your thing, try going for walks around the campus. Look out for food and drink with the green "Good Food" labels on campus. They have less fat, sugar and salt, they also taste delicious and make you feel good! If you want one-on-one support, Notting Hill BASE Clinic offers sessions with a nutritionist at a heavily subsidised rate. Quit smoking, limit alcohol intake and remember to see a doctor for regular check-ups.
