Vice-Chancellor's Award for Exceptional Contributions to OHS


Applications are now open to Monash University staff for the "Vice-Chancellor's Award for Exceptional Contributions to OHS".  Applications are invited from individuals and teams.

The Awards recognise the contributions of staff who have implemented innovative and exciting ideas in Occupational Health and Safety at Monash University.


  • All staff who are employed by Monash University, with the exception of OH&S staff, are eligible to apply or be nominated by their peers.
  • Applications may be submitted by an individual or teams.

Things to consider prior to submitting your application

Nominations will be assessed on demonstrated attributes such as, implementing a strategy, innovative ideas to improve health and safety and to raise awareness.

Your application must include objective evidence to demonstrate any of the following:

  • reduction in incident/injury rates
  • positively influencing stakeholders in OHS
  • originality/innovation
  • fostering positive OHS culture
  • being resourceful with available resources
  • promoting OHS initiatives

Submitting your application

Applications can be from individuals or teams and must have the support of their Head of Unit or Manager.

The following information needs to be included in the application:

1. Completed "Application Form".
2. A statement of no more than 500 words outlining the achievements of the nominated individual or team.
3. Further supporting documentation (if applicable) of no more than three pages.

Selection Committee

Nominations will be evaluated by a committee comprising:

  • Chairperson of the Monash University OHS Committee
  • A member of the Monash University OHS Committee
  • Manager, OH&S


The following prize money will be awarded to the successful nominees.

  • Individual - $3,000
  • Team - $5,000

The Awards will be presented by the President & Vice-Chancellor or her nominee at a celebratory luncheon at the end of October.
