Monash University opens doors to showcase world-leading research and education
Monash University was recently ranked second in the world for Pharmacy and Pharmacology. The top position holder? Harvard University in the United States.
On Sunday 19 August, members of the general public will get a rare chance to see some of the world-leading research and education that earned the University that #2 spot when it throws open its doors of its Parkville Campus for its annual Open Day.
Monash’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is offering an exclusive sneak peek at pharmacy in action through interactive tours, virtual reality experiences, glimpses into the future of pharmacy and adventures including the new Discovery Challenge and Escape Room.
This year’s theme ‘Don’t Like It, Change It’ encourages the next generation of scientists and researchers to find solutions to new problems that challenge the future of healthcare, the climate and politics.
Monash University Parkville is offering future students the chance to chat to researchers, doctors, scientists and current cohorts to find out what inspires them to improve treatments for infectious diseases, developing new drugs and increasing the quality of life in communities where healthcare is sparse.
Monash University Parkville is noted for ground breaking treatments that are changing lives around the world, including the flu vaccine, Relenza and a new inhaled form of Oxytocin that can significantly reduce maternal deaths caused by blood loss in resource poor communities.
Monash University is ranked number two in the world for Pharmacy and Pharmacology by the QS World University Rankings. Students are offered the only undergraduate pharmacy program in Australia which gives them a Masters qualification and internship all in a five year program.
The university partners with industry leaders, research centres and major pharmaceutical companies to give students a firsthand chance to learn how pharmacy works in the real world.
The industry is one of Victoria’s fastest growing sectors, employing more than 23,000 people in Victoria and generating over $12.7 billion in revenue a year in medical technologies and pharmaceuticals.
While Open Day is primarily an opportunity for prospective students to get a feel for campus life, Monash University encourages everyone to tour the campus, learn about the research and talk with staff and students about their future career paths, overseas study and internships.
The event also features live music from local musicians, street entertainers, food trucks churning out Melbourne’s top street eats and free coffee from top roastery St Ali.
Prospective students are encouraged to plan their day through the Monash University Open Day Planner available here.
