Monash University retains #2 world ranking in Pharmacy and Pharmacology
The 2018 QS World University Rankings by Subject, released overnight, have ranked Monash University second in the world for pharmacy and pharmacology. This is a repeat of the 2017 World University rankings, in which Monash also ranked second.
The QS Rankings list the world’s top 959 universities, and are based on a series of qualitative and quantitative measures.
Academic reputation comprises 40 per cent of the ranking and employer reputation comprises 10 per cent. Quantitative measures of research excellence such as citations and staff H-indexes account for the remainder and are weighted at 25 per cent each.
The 2018 QS assessment of Monash’s Pharmacy and Pharmacology subject area included a perfect score of 100 for the academic reputation indicator, as well as very strong scores in research publication-based citation metrics.
Monash continues to be number one ranked program in pharmacy and pharmacology in Australia and within the AsiaPacific region. It has averaged a top 10 ranking in the discipline since the subject rankings were introduced in 2011.
Professor William Charman, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, welcomed the ranking and the recognition of the faculty’s reputation for contemporary education, transformative research programs and impactful profession-wide collaborations.
“This outcome is a result of the ambition, talent and team-based work of our staff, students and alumni – and our collaborative partnerships with educators, research groups and industry partners, and professional organisations around the world,” Professor Charman said.
