Monash Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences launches podcast

The Monash University Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has released the debut episode of a new podcast series.

Titled “Side Effects May Vary”, the series aims to chart the ways in which medicines have shaped society and culture over time.

Each episode will examine a disease or a type of medicine, telling the story of the impact that it has made through the medium of interviews with Monash academics. Interview subjects will include researchers from both Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and from across the rest of the University.

“The podcast format offers us the opportunity to tell stories on a wider screen than the standard news release does,” said Professor Chris Porter, Director of the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

“It gives us the chance to pursue things just because they’re interesting, to spend more time on the human impact of medicines, and to tell some of the lesser known stories that hide beneath the headlines,” he said.

The first episode provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse the range of ways the faculty is tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequent episodes tackle areas including antidepressants, allergies, opioids and malaria.
