Monash University Ranks #11 in the World for Pharmacology and Toxicology

The National Taiwan University (NTU) Ranking 2020, released this week, ranked Monash University 11th in the world for Pharmacology and Toxicology, making Monash the highest placed Australian university in this subject.

The rankings measure universities’ performance in science research based on published scientific papers. Overall, Monash climbed more places than any other Australian Group of Eight university, rising eight places to 45 globally and retaining its fourth-place ranking at a national level.

The results are the university’s best ranking performance to date, and reinforce Monash's global reputation as a research-intensive institution.

Over the last decade, Monash University’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has consistently ranked amongst the top in the world for Pharmacy, Pharmacology and Toxicology, with the NTU result further solidifying the Faculty’s position as world-leaders in research, practice and education.

Earlier this year the QS World Rankings by Subject placed Monash number two in the world for the related disciplines of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, second only to Oxford University.

Since the QS subject rankings were introduced in 2011, Monash University has ranked in the most elite group of Pharmacy and Pharmacology programs worldwide, whilst consistently retaining its position as Australia’s and the Asia-Pacific’s number one University for Pharmacy and Pharmacology

Professor Arthur Christopoulos, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, said that “The NTU Ranking reflects the dedication of our talented staff and students and the generosity of our collaborators in the pharmacy profession.”

“Even in the midst of a pandemic, every day I see a continuous drive to progress on our Faculty’s mission to make healthcare better on a global scale,” he said.

Monash University also ranked 11th globally (and #1 nationally) in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in the 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as the Shanghai Rankings.
