‘Catalyst’ profile on MIPS research sparks renewed interest

1 July 2016

Dr Erica Sloan and Dr Caroline Le’s research on the way that stress accelerates the spread of cancer has received renewed media interest thanks to an in-depth profile of the work on Catalyst, ABC’s flagship science show.

The story has been covered in the Huffington Post, The Daily Mail and Channel Nine’s Today show, amongst other outlets.

The research, published in Nature Communications, reveals how chronic stress results in the development of "cancer highways" that allow cancer cells to travel more freely. It also posits that anti-stress medication may slow the spread of the cancer, a possibility that is currently being investigated through a trial lead by Monash researcher, Dr Jonathan Hiller.
