Flicking the switch: Using nanotools to remotely control cellular processes on demand

This project aims to investigate how we can use electromagnetic waves to trigger nano-sized switches to create heat – providing nanotools to remotely control specific cellular processes. Using next-generation gold nanoclusters as nano-swithes and an innovative approach that draws on a range of disciplines, this project expects to generate new knowledge in the area of bionanotechnology and nanomedicine.


Expected outcomes include the design and creation of new nanotools that can generate precise heat at a cellular level and on demand. This should provide significant benefits, such as advancing our understanding of how cells respond to heat, that could unlock potential for major breakthroughs in treating disease.
