The Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) accepts a limited amount of PhD candidates each year. We pride ourselves on accepting only the best. The Vaughan scholarship offers additional financial support to elite candidates in the chemical and biological sciences.
A $7000 a year top-up
A top-up scholarship valued at $7000 a year, the Vaughan scholarship will be available in addition to other scholarships. The scholarship will end with the conclusion of your RTP Stipend (Formerly APA).
When to apply
The scholarship is awarded every year and application for the current round close on 30 April.
To be successful, you will also require an RTP Stipend, applications for which close on the 31 May.
How to apply
To apply, you should send the following to email@example.com with the subject line, "Vaughan Scholarship Application" by 30 April:
- A curriculum vitae (no more than 2 pages).
- Your most recent transcript of academic results.
- A statement (no more than 500 words) outlining which of the research disciplines at MIPS you are interested in.
You must be:
- an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident;
- eligible for admission as a PhD candidate on a full-time basis at MIPS in 2020; and
- a candidate for an RTP Stipend for the round closing 31 May .
Assessment and selection
All applications will be carefully reviewed by senior staff and the strongest candidates will be shortlisted and invited to visit MIPS. Travel expenses will be paid for interstate candidates.
During this visit to MIPS, you will meet with senior researchers, receive a tour of MIPS’ world-class facilities and participate in interviews. This will also be your chance to interview us and make sure that MIPS is the best place for you to commence your PhD.
Following the interview process, successful candidates will be given conditional offers to start a PhD at MIPS and to receive the Vaughan Scholarship.
To secure full offers, you will need to secure an RTP Stipend and commence your PhD with MIPS before the following September.
The recipient may be called upon to act as a MIPS ambassador at faculty or University events.
Dr Geoffrey Vaughan
This scholarship honours the extraordinary contribution of Dr Geoffrey Vaughan in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and medical research. He was the Dean of the Victorian College of Pharmacy (now the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences) from 1979-1985. In this period, he initiated a strong focus on research into drug development and health advancement, establishing global links that brought the faculty an international reputation and commercial success that MIPS continues to achieve today.
