The role of obesity and exercise in type 2 diabetes, liver cancer and Alzheimer's disease

For over two decades the Febbraio laboratory has been at the fore-front of research identifying the molecular pathways that link physical activity to protection from obesity related chronic disease, translating this information into the development of ‘exercise mimetics’, some that are already in the clinic. Diseases such as type 2 diabetes (T2D), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) leading to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) are linked to obesity and are amongst the fastest growing diseases in the world. This research program will focus on the development of novel therapies to treat these disorders.
