Pharmacists are the experts on medicine use and safety. Interdisciplinary models of care involving various health professionals is the key to managing chronic health conditions effectively. Such collaborative projects can optimise the health of people through preventive and curative approaches.
Johnson is a research leader in Public Health/Health Services Research focusing on chronic respiratory conditions, viz asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He has been instrumental in linking the expertise of researchers in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences with those in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and in the Faculty of Engineering in designing innovative inter-professional solutions for improving the health and wellbeing of Australians. These works have been supported by Category 1 grants (NHMRC Partnership Project, ARC Linkage), Department of Health grants, industry grants, grants from philanthropic trusts, and university grants.
