We are using natural products as inspiration to motivate the development of new chemistry to generate bioactive synthetic peptides. Projects offered relate to the development of new building blocks, cyclisation methods and fluorescent ligands. The projects relate to synthesis of peptide ligands for GPCR targets – the neuropeptide Y and melanocortin receptors.
In one element of this program students will engage in the medicinal chemistry and the biological evaluation of the compounds. Students will develop skills in cell biology working in the labs of Professor Michael Cowley, at Physiology at Monash or Dr Nick Holiday at University of Nottingham.
In this project, the student will be able to spend 3-6 months in the labs of Dr Nick Holiday at University of Nottingham working on the study of peptide signalling using fluorescence spectroscopy.
