Community and Aged Care Services
CMUS is focused on the development and evaluation of innovative services to optimise health outcomes and minimise medication-related harm. A particular focus is on interdisciplinary services provided in community and aged care settings.
Our goal is to identify the most effective ways to organise, manage, finance and deliver high quality medication management services in an interdisciplinary context that improve medication safety.
Our key research expertise and interests focus on aged care, dementia and respiratory disease.
We are working proactively with clinicians, aged care providers and consumers to improve medication outcomes for people with chronic health conditions and those receiving aged care services. Recent examples of our interdisciplinary research funded through various NHMRC schemes include the RADICALS trial, the HAPPI MIND trial and the SIMPLER trial. The commitment of CMUS to the quality of healthcare is also evidenced by the testimony at the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety on issues related to residential aged care services, medication management and the use of high risk medications.
