Planned giving

What legacy will you leave?

What legacy will you leave?

Monash is known best for its global outlook, its genuine belief in challenging the status quo, and creating a positive impact on society. There are many ways you can leave your own personal mark on society too.

In your lifetime you can build companies, lead projects or mentor teams; raise children, write a book or support your community. Your influence doesn’t have to stop when you do. You can continue to leave your mark by leaving a gift to Monash in your will.

A planned gift, or a bequest, simply means you include Monash as a beneficiary in your will to support life-changing projects and opportunities.

It’s never too early to start thinking about what you could leave behind – now could be the perfect time to create your legacy.

Those who have informed us of their intention to leave a gift in their Will are invited to join the Matheson Society. Named after Sir Louis Matheson, the first Vice-Chancellor of Monash University, and his wife Lady Matheson, who are fondly referred to as the ‘parents of Monash’. The Society seeks to recognise and celebrate our generous supporters, holding annual events and providing wonderful opportunities to meet with University leadership, our students and of course to form connections with like-minded people who, like you, are creating a legacy of positive change.

This could be the easiest way for you to have the largest impact.

Creating your legacy

When you support Monash, you support enterprise, diversity and a passion for innovation that will shape the world. Our supporters have an affinity to a subject and a clear vision for change.

A gift of a scholarship

Many of the contributions we receive go to our students via scholarships. Your planned gift enables bright young individuals to achieve their ambitions, regardless of their hardships.

A gift to research

Your generosity could further support our understanding of the greatest challenges of our age.

A gift to advance learning

Share our commitment to creating a vibrant hub of knowledge where students and researchers from almost every discipline come together to collaborate and drive ideas that will shape our future.

An open gift

If you are unsure which area to support, you can direct your planned gift to a specific faculty or to the University in general and we will direct your contribution to the area most in need.

How do you start giving?

These three simple steps will assist with your planning.

  1. Decide on a giving level that is suitable for you
  2. Consider your interests
  3. Prepare your will

A gift in your will could include:

  • A percentage or the residual of your estate
  • A sum of money
  • Property
  • Stocks and shares
  • Works of arts or valuable collections
  • A life insurance policy, annuities or trust

For more information, please download our Frequently Asked Questions to support your planning. However, for detailed assistance on will writing and amendment, we recommend that you consult a solicitor, a trustee or accredited wills and estate specialist.
