Commitment to industry engagement
Professor Ian Smith, Vice-Provost (Research and Research Infrastructure), and his team have been working with a number of industry consultants to increase stakeholder and customer confidence through achieving ISO9001 certification across the Monash Technology Research Platforms (MTRP).
Instigated through the Victorian State Governments Innovation Voucher Program (IVP), Monash was awarded two IVP skills vouchers for training, coaching and mentoring of platform managers to implement a unified platform quality management framework for the university’s network of technology research platforms.
Professor Smith said the business community is disinclined towards working with universities, but certification of the University’s strong, integrated network of world-class research platforms affirms that Monash follows best practice.
“We believe this is a differentiating factor for Monash – no other University in Australia is underpinning their capabilities with this level of quality system,” Professor Smith said.
“Our platforms underpin our research efforts and provide high-quality specialist research services. By engaging with ASEA (Automotive Suppliers Excellence Australia) and attaining ISO9001:2008 certification (audited by SAI Global) we will broaden our market scope, increase our already significant competitive advantage and is hard evidence that we are committed to making industry-academic collaborations work.”
The Monash technology research platforms provide access to cutting edge technologies and expertise, to enable excellent, innovative and high-quality research outcomes.
