Our future home - The Victorian Heart Hospital
A strong connection between research and patient care is vital to changing the trajectory of heart health in Australia. Specialist heart hospitals together with heart research institutes across the world are a powerful model to innovate the bench to bedside approach for better patient outcomes and future innovations. They connect discovery research with clinicians and clinical research.
When Australia’s first dedicated heart hospital opens at the Monash University Clayton campus in 2022, it will also be the physical home of the Victorian Heart Institute.
Here at this state of the art, purpose-built hospital, the VHI will have dedicated research and clinical trials facilities. The colocation of the VHI’s research and teaching together with the clinical practice of the 200-bed hospital will make full advantage of the ‘living lab’ and create evidence-based solutions for patients at the hospital and beyond.
The VHI at the VHH in 2022 will have:
- State-of-the-art laboratories for biomedical, engineering, biobanking, design and many other activities
- Specialised Clinical Trials areas
- The highest quality education spaces (dedicated simulation suites for teaching and learning, lecture theatres and collaborative learning spaces).
