Pathways into Science
If you don't achieve the 'right' ATAR, it isn’t the end of the world – there are alternative pathways into a Bachelor of Science at Monash.

Transfer from another university
Students can apply to transfer from another university’s science-related degree into Monash Science. Entry will be determined by a number of factors, including your Year 12 results, the grades achieved in your tertiary study (60% or higher), and the duration of that study. Single university units
Applicants without the required formal qualifications can be considered for admission by studying two single (science) university units. Upon successful completion and with a minimum average result of 60%, application can be made for entry into the Bachelor of Science provided the English language requirement and the subject prerequisite have been met.
The applicant’s complete academic record will be taken into consideration.
Diploma of Higher Education (DoHE)
ATAR of at least 60, with a study score of at least 27 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English. TAFE applicants can apply with a recognised graded Certificate IV – average grade of 70%. Upon successful completion of all units and a minimum score of 60%, admission can be made into second year Bachelor of Science single degree and Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education (Hons) double degree. TAFE qualifications (graded)
Certificate IV Science-based certificate IV will be considered where the applicant has achieved average results of 80% or above. For applicants who have also completed VCE, both qualifications will be considered. No credit is granted for these studies.
DiplomaTo be considered, applicants who have completed VCE or its equivalent and who are applying with a science-based diploma will require a minimum average result of at least 60%. Diploma of Science - Monash College (International students)
Upon completion of Year 12 Australian equivalent, students can undertake an eight-month Diploma of Science at Monash College which offers a direct pathway into the second year of a science degree. Read more...
Monash University Foundation Year - Monash College (International students)
The Monash University Foundation Year is a pre-university program that prepares students for undergraduate study. Students must successfully complete this program with a 65% in English and a Science subject, with an overall score of 72.5% to be eligible for the Bachelor of Science.Read more...
Monash Indigenous Entry Scheme (Indigenous Students)
The Monash Indigenous Entry Scheme provides Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students direct admission into a range of undergraduate degrees at a significantly lower ATAR. The Bachelor of Science is included (50 ATAR). There are no special classes, extra requirements or time added to the course for students admitted under the Indigenous Entry Scheme and students will graduate with the same Monash degree as any other student. Monash Indigenous Access Program (MIAP - Indigenous Students)
The Monash Indigenous Access Program (MIAP) is a 6 – 12 month scholarship funded bridging program which prepares students for entry into a variety of undergraduate degrees at Monash University. This bridging course is taught across Monash College and Monash University and caters for students that:
- haven't completed Year 12
- graduated on a non-ATAR pathway
- received an ATAR under 50
- are mature aged with no previous study experience.
