Monash Science teachers and support staff recognised in Monash Student Association (MSA) Teaching Awards
Three Monash Science staff have received Monash Student Association (MSA) Teaching Awards for their commitment to excellence and their outstanding service to students.
The highly prestigious student-nominated awards celebrate the excellence of teaching and support staff at Monash.
The award categories included:
- Teaching Excellence Awards
- Student Support Award
- Innovative Teaching Award
- Above and Beyond Award
- Volunteer of the Year Award
Winners from the Science Faculty included:
- Science Student Services Manager Heather Kelly (Student Support Award category)
- School of Chemistry Teaching Associate Dr Ish Kumar (Teaching Excellence Award (Science) category)
- School of Mathematics ARC Future Fellow Associate Professor Daniel Horsley (Teaching Excellence Award (IT) category)
- School of Mathematics Associate Professor Burkard Polster was a finalist in the Innovative Teacher Award category.
This year, the MSA received a record number of nominations, with over 550 students expressing gratitude for their teachers.
Held annually since 2014, this entirely student run awards program is a greatly valued demonstration of the lasting impact thoughtful, innovative and considerate acts by staff members can have on the student learning experience.
Monash Science Dean Professor Jordan Nash said the Awards highlighted the professionalism, drive and commitment of Faculty staff to see all Science students succeed.
“Congratulations to our staff who have been recognised by the Monash Student Association (MSA) Teaching Awards,” Professor Nash said.
“As an educator myself I can say with confidence that such positive feedback from students and to see that you are making a real difference in their lives is what we all strive for.”
