Rowan designs, implements and delivers innovative educational programs in science.
As a Course Director for the Bachelor of Science - Global Challengers (Honours), Rowan works to provide a transformative educational experience to ensure students are equipped to be changemakers on the global stage.
In this undergraduate course Rowan teaches leadership, communication and science diplomacy.
Rowan completed her undergraduate degree at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand where she did a Bachelor of Science (Honours) majoring in ecology and Bachelor of Arts majoring in anthropology and religious studies. She moved to Australia after she was awarded a doctoral scholarship to study at Monash University.
In her PhD studies, she examined the reproductive ecology of an Australian native plant, Stylidium armeria. She continues her keen interest in the natural world by spending as much time as possible exploring her natural environment.
Throughout her Honours and PhD, Rowan taught undergraduate science students, which was an experience that stimulated her interest in education.
Following the completion of her PhD thesis, Rowan worked with Monash academics assisting them to enhance their teaching using educational technology before moving to the School of Biological Sciences where she currently works.
Rowan is a fan of trail running and mountain biking (or anything else adrenaline fuelled). She's a mum to three totally wonderful kids (10, 8, 5). Rowan shares her home on the glorious Mornington Peninsula with a crazy Collie dog, her dad, kids and very understanding husband.
