Our large and successful School of Chemistry has a broad research base that emphasises the chemistry of sustainability and strengths in materials, synthetic, analytical and green chemistry.
This year, we opened the new state-of-the-art building, Green Chemical Futures. This multidisciplinary innovation hub is dedicated to supporting researchers and industries innovating within the chemicals manufacturing sector. The new building acts as a catalyst for new ideas, providing a stimulating environment where industry and academia collaborate. The design of the building itself is intended to stimulate innovation with features such as a spiralling staircase and inspiring wall art.
We are home to the Victorian Centre for Sustainable Chemical Manufacturing, which, along with the recently launched Chemicals and Plastics Innovation Network and Training Program, facilitate positive exchange between industry, Government and academia. Additionally, five research centres encompass leading-edge research and industry engagement: Water Studies; Biospectroscopy; Australian Centre for Electromaterials Science; Centre for Scientific Instrumentation; and Green Chemical Futures.
Our partnership with the chemicals industry is growing. We have forged initiatives such as Green Chemical Futures, the Victorian Centre for Sustainable Chemical Manufacturing and the Chemicals and Plastics Innovation Network and Training Program, underpinned by State Government support with the participation of more than 20 industry partners
Our intent is to nurture our relationships with industry so our researchers can go on to have a greater impact in the wider world. We want to ensure our students have a real world pathway to industry.
