Spin texture

Spin texture.

A Bose-Einstein condensate of atoms prepared as a "texture" that contains a structure more complicated than a simple vortex (three shown, where arrows go to zero length). The condensate is a mixture of atoms in two different states, and the relative amounts vary with location, as shown by the arrows (pointing up means all in one state; pointing down means all in the other).
