UniSport Australia

What is UniSport Australia?

UniSport Australia is the peak governing body of inter-university sport in Australia. They promote and foster the importance of university sport as an integral part of university life at 43 member universities, who collectively represent more than one million students nationwide.

UniSport Australia hosts some of the largest and most highly anticipated university sporting competitions in the Australian sporting calendar and represents the pinnacle of student-athlete participation nationally.


Monash Involvement

Monash typically sends teams to the following events run by UniSport Australia.

UniSport Nationals, which includes Swimming, Athletics and 3x3 Basketball as standalone competitions; is the flagship varsity sporting competition in Australia. Indigenous Nationals is a week-long multisport competition for indigenous student athletes, featuring 4 sports: Basketball, Netball, Volleyball and Touch Rugby. Indigenous Nationals

Indigenous Nationals is a week long multisport competition to celebrate the rich sporting culture of indigenous Australia and to acknowledge the heritage and history of the participating student-athletes.

The National Indigenous Tertiary Education Student Games (NITESG) began in 1996 as a collaborative class project by 13 students pursuing a Diploma of Aboriginal Studies (Community Recreation) at the Wollotuka School for Aboriginal Studies, University of Newcastle.

Now known as the Indigenous Nationals, this week-long multi-sport competition brings together Indigenous student-athletes from universities across Australia. The event celebrates the rich sporting culture of Indigenous Australia while honouring the heritage and history of the participants. Each year, universities vie for the championship title in a variety of sports.
