Monash Sport invites you to our second Inclusive Gym & Swim Night. We want everyone to feel comfortable in our centres, so we're staying open late for a FREE night of inclusive fun, swimming, fitness and activities!

This event is a way to welcome the whole community, in particular, those who identify as LGBTIQ+, their family and friends.

What does inclusive mean?

We use the term ‘inclusive’ to highlight that this event is an inclusive and safe space for the LGBTIQ+ community and their families and friends.

Who can attend?

This event is for the LGBITQ+ community, their family and friends.  

Is this event suitable for children?

Children are very welcome to attend this event.  Please make sure you are aware of our Watch Around Water program for children under the age of 5 years and children under the age of 10.  

The gym and group fitness classes will only be available to persons over the age of 16 years.

Please be mindful that all change room and toilet facilities for the evening will be all gender. Family change facilities will be available at the swimming pool.

Why are we hosting an inclusive gym & swim night?

To show our support for the LGBITQ+ community and to communicate that our facilities are a safe place where the community can feel comfortable to participate in health and fitness activities along with everyone else without fear of resistance for being who they are.  

What facilities will be available on the night?

All facilities in the Doug Ellis Swimming Pool will be open on the night. This includes 2 x 25m swimming pools, the leisure pool, sauna, spa and steam room. 

The Gym will also be open throughout the evening and in addition, group fitness classes will be available throughout the night (class list online soon).

Plus we have a variety of court sports available in our Games Hall and Stadium including basketball, badminton, netball, table tennis and volleyball.

*Please note: The sauna, spa and steam room, gym and group fitness classes are only available to those over the age of 16 years.  

What amenities will be available for this event?

All change room and toilet facilities will be all-gender from 6pm on the night. We will have signage at the entry of each change room outlining the amenities in each area, all shower facilities at Monash Sport are within cubicles or within an accessible change room.

All toilets are within cubicles or within an accessible change room, urinals are available and the swimming pool has a family change area which, consists of several change cubicles, open rinse showers and two accessible change rooms (with shower and toilet). 

What can I wear?

Whatever makes you feel comfortable. For safety reasons, we do ask that you follow our conditions of entry:

- Swimming Pool: Appropriate swimwear must be worn.

- The Doug Ellis Swimming Pool shop will be open if you would like to purchase swimwear, goggles, swimming caps etc.

- In the gym and group fitness classes: Appropriate clothing and footwear is to be worn at all times. Jeans, work boots, thongs, sandals, slippers and open-toed shoes are prohibited.

What accessibility access is available?

A wheelchair-accessible ramp is available at the Scenic Boulevard main entrance to Monash Sport; the Doug Ellis Swimming Pool has a hoist if required for entry/exit to the main & leisure pool and a lift is available to access the second level of the Fitness Centre. 

Please speak to a Monash Sport staff member if you require any assistance.

What is the Fitness and Swimming technique and advice?

Monash Sport will have fitness and swimming instructors available on the night. Feel free to ask them if you need assistance or have any questions. They will be more than willing to give you some tips!

Will Security be available throughout the evening?  

Security will be present throughout the evening, with all guards being allied trained and wearing plain clothes for the evening. Security will ensure a presence throughout the Monash Sport building, carparks and surrounding areas.

Inter-campus shuttle bus - Regular, free shuttle buses (with free Wi-Fi) link our Clayton campus with our Caulfield and Peninsula campuses, and our Peninsula campus to Frankston Railway Station.
