Analyse sources

When analysing a source, interrogate the following:

  • its purpose and any assumptions it makes
  • its structure
  • its use of evidence and reasoning
  • its limitations and biases
  • any patterns or themes you uncover.

Your interrogation can build on your preliminary questioning.

When you analyse multiple sources (for example in a literature review or an essay), you can compare and contrast your analysis of individual sources by using an analytical matrix or a mind map.
