About the Office of Student Conduct

Our purpose

To protect the safety and wellbeing of university students and staff and provide support to all parties involved in matters of general misconduct. The Office aims to ensure Monash University takes a consistent approach to student general misconduct and prevents misconduct from occurring.

Reporting

The Office reports misconduct cases anonymously to the University's senior executive, identifying trends and looking for opportunities to make systemic improvement.

Our philosophy

The Office aims to deal with allegations of student general misconduct through a resolution process that:

is impartial and fair to all parties involved
is responsive to complex and sensitive issues
imposes penalties that are proportionate and appropriate
is handled in a timely manner

Our principles

When handling a report of general misconduct, decision-makers are bound by the principles of natural justice. This means that a students have the right to:

  • be informed of the allegations against them and be provided with a reasonable opportunity to respond to the allegations
  • be provided with a reasonable opportunity to respond to the allegations
  • have the allegations determined by an unbiased decision-maker.
