Monash student intern receives tribute in US Congressional Record
12 March 2018
When Caitlin “Katie” Brand joined the prestigious Uni-Capitol Washington Internship Programme (UCWIP), she surely did not expect to later receive a tribute in the United States Congressional Record. Yet, that’s exactly what has happened.
The UCWIP offers outstanding Australian university students the opportunity to intern with offices of the United States Congress in Washington, DC. As part of this program, Katie, a Commerce/Law student at Monash, got a gig with the state of Idaho’s Senator Mike Crapo. And her dedication to her duties clearly stood out.
“Katie has been a pleasure to have on my staff and quickly adapted to her role and responsibilities in the office,” says the Senator. “Her eager and intelligent demeanor have allowed Katie to put forth her best work in helping to advance crucial work for Idahoans. I commend the level of professionalism Katie exhibits in every office interaction.”
For someone like Katie, who plans to pursue a career in international relations or banking, such a glowing recommendation might very well open a few doors. The internship has benefitted her in a variety of ways, and will guide her in the years ahead.
“Being part of the UCWIP Programme and working in Senator Crapo’s office was an invaluable experience,” shares Katie. “The opportunity has afforded me unparalleled insight into the world’s foremost legislative body and enriched my professional development, including opportunities beyond what I imagined, such as attending the State of the Union as the Senator’s guest.”
Congratulations to Katie for receiving this tribute. We wish her continued success.
