About the Universitas Gadjah Mada

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The 2013 QS University Rankings ranked UGM as the 133rd best university in the Asian Region and the third best in Indonesia. It is also the oldest and one of the most prestigious universities in the country, with over 55,000 students (slightly smaller than Monash) and 18 faculties on 360 acres of land. UGM is currently implementing an educopolis area in order to create a more conducive environment for the continuity of the learning process. This includes addressing pollution levels and emissions, planting trees, restricting vehicle access to the campus and developing new dormitories and parking area.

The Special Region of Yogyakarta of where UGM is located, is one of the smallest provinces in Indonesia and has been widely known as a centre of Javanese culture as well as a centre of learning. It has 3,400,000 inhabitants, 511,000 of whom reside in the city of Yogyakarta. Its designation as a centre of learning is marked by the existence of 120 state and private tertiary educational institutions, with a student population of over 300,000.


The specifics

The Office of International Affairs of universitas Gadjah Mada (OIA) has been developed to provide advice and assistance to foreign students. It includes information on living in Jogja, accommodation details, available facilities and unit information. There is also the opportunity to undertake a Social and Political Science Immersion program at UGM.
