Located near San Francisco, the University of California, Berkeley is a flagship research institution in the United States. It is ranked as one of the world’s most prestigious universities and the top public university in the United States.
This study tour will immerse you into the world of Silicon Valley. You will be exposed to industry leaders who will share their tales of success and failure in workshops where you will be actively engaged with experienced entrepreneurs and innovators. You will learn from top academics at Berkeley about innovation, entrepreneurship and the importance of an entrepreneurial mindset. You will also visit some of the biggest tech companies in the world. This program will challenge you to push beyond your perceived limits and boundaries, enabling you to pursue any of your future endeavours with confidence.
Who should consider this unit?
Undergraduate students. It may meet the capstone study requirements in the Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Commerce. You should seek advice from your course advisor.
This two-week, intensive unit is designed to provide you with a solid foundation in innovation, technology and entrepreneurship. Designed by world-class faculty at the Haas School of Business at Berkeley and global industry leaders, the curriculum includes a wide array of topics related to start-ups. This includes, design thinking, the lean start-up approach, venture finance, horizon technology, design research, prototyping and pitching. The program will require you to work in a start-up style team of your peers, where you will work on a real-world challenge. This will culminate in a final pitch to a panel of Silicon Valley investors.
- Tuition provided by the Berkeley Haas School of Business.
- Accommodation for 13 nights. Program accommodation will be provided by UC, Berkeley student residence.

The package does not include:
- International flights
- Visa costs
- Local travel except for program site visits
- Medical expenses (which may be claimable via the insurance policy)
- Any additional meals and drinks that are not included as part of the program
- Personal expenses
Enrolled undergraduate students who have achieved a minimum WAM of 60% at the time of applying and completed 72 credit points of study. Application is via a competitive process and includes a personal pitch video (no more than 3 minutes) and CV (details provided on the Monash Abroad Portal).
Please note, if you are accepted into the program there will be a soft launch event and three preparatory workshops conducted by the Entrepreneurship faculty in Monash Business School. These will be held in the months prior to departure. These are compulsory for all students to attend. Failure to attend may result in the loss of your position in the program.
Assessment and results
The program will be recognised as equivalent to 6 credit points of Monash study. Students will be enrolled in BEX3412.
