Collaborative Online International Learning
There are a growing number of units at Monash that have been re-developed to include a COIL project. COIL projects provide you with the opportunity to learn from international experts and collaborate with peers from Monash’s global network of exchange partner universities, without leaving home.
Program overview
You will spend approximately four weeks of the semester participating in an innovative online learning experience designed to expand your global horizons.
In collaboration with a partner academic at an overseas university, the academic leading your unit has designed the COIL experience to include elements such as:
- Introductory activities to help you feel comfortable and get to know your peers at the partner institution
- Lectures/workshops led by international experts on topics relating to your unit
- International guest speakers from government, non-profit organisations and/or industry
- Discipline-related learning activities that maximise your interaction with peers at the partner university, to develop your intercultural understanding and competence
- Group-based assessment, to allow you to collaborate with peers overseas
- Opportunities for reflection, to better understand your perspective, and how it is similar and/or different to your overseas peers (and how it has changed during the COIL experience)
- Activities to help you consider future study/career development opportunities abroad
- Pre- and post-COIL surveys to improve the learning experience
Each COIL unit is different, and you can participate in as many COIL units as you wish, as long as it fits within your existing degree structure.
