Entry Level Translation
Professional development short course
This short course is an introduction to translation in community settings, intended for proficient users of English and at least one other language interested in entering the field. Topics covered will include basic theoretical concepts in translation, professional ethics and the role of the translator, relevant genres for community settings, and consideration of the skills and resources required to work as a translator. The short course will combine presentations from academics and experienced T&I professionals.
This course does not lead to NAATI certification but will give participants an understanding of the industry, the skills, and knowledge required to work within it and the steps to take to become certified.
This professional development short course is run with the support of the Department of Premier and Cabinet, State Government of Victoria.
Students may also apply for a bursary which allows for a heavily discounted enrolment fee in cases of financial hardship. Bursary applicants must satisfy the criteria to be considered. The cut-off date for bursary applications is 7 days before the course start date.
