Interpreting in Crisis Situations - PDA1021

This short course covers the different types of crisis situations in a community environment.  The short course will combine presentations and reflective practice exercises from T&I professionals and industry experts, exploring topics such as interpreting skills and techniques, occupational health and safety, vicarious trauma and self-care.

This professional development short course is run with the support of the Department of Premier and Cabinet, State Government of Victoria.

Students may also apply for a bursary which allows for a heavily discounted enrolment fee in cases of financial hardship. Bursary applicants must satisfy the criteria to be considered. The cut-off date for bursary applications is 7 days before the course start date.

Aims:

To establish best practice when interpreting in various crisis situations. The course is aimed at those with or without prior experience interpreting in crisis situations interested in obtain practical knowledge to be better prepared when these type of situations arise. It is open to speakers of all languages, who have high-level language skills in English and another language or languages.

Topics covered include interpreting skills and techniques, occupational health and safety, vicarious trauma and self-care.

Assessment:

Your presenter will identify a variety of practical tasks during the course.

Recognition:

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be eligible to earn 20 PD points towards recertification (Section 1.4 of the NAATI Recertification Professional Development Catalogue). A Certificate of Completion will be awarded.
