Ancient cultures enables you to explore the foundations of your world. This fascinating area of study draws from archaeology, classics and ancient history. You'll develop the knowledge and critical skills to interpret the ancient past, the debates it continues to inspire, and the modern world that rises on its foundations.

Taking a multidisciplinary approach to the worlds of Indigenous Australia and Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, you'll have the opportunity to study with world-renowned experts, work on international and Australian archaeological digs, learn classical languages and much more.

Corestudies span archaeology, ancient history and classics, and incorporatepathways that focus upon indigenous Australia, ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, while encouraging cross-cultural study. Ancient Cultures includes the study of complex society in all its forms,materiality, visual and literary culture, and religious diversity. Your languagestudy could include Latin or Ancient Greek.

If ancientEgypt is your passion, Monash is the only university in Australia to offer asequence of units stretching from Egypt's emergence as a complex society toChristian times.

Are youinterested in understanding indigenous culture? You can learn about the 50,000years of Australia's indigenous past – including the meaning and symbolism ofits visual art.

You'll have the exciting opportunity to study overseas atour Prato Centre in Italy. There you'll benefit from being up close andpersonal with ancient Italy, examining Etruscan and Roman culture. You may alsolook into studying abroad with one of our international partner universitiesthat offer ancient culture programs.

Throughout,this major will ask you to engage with other Arts disciplines, evaluating theperennial influence of the ancient world on today's globalised reality. Notonly will this give you a deeper perspective on global events, allowing you todiscriminate long-term patterns from passing phenomena, but you'll developessential workplace skills in critical thinking, research, and the preciseexpression and presentation of ideas.
