Your qualification will be a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Secondary Health and Physical Education
Healthy minds make for healthy communities. With this specialisation, you’ll be teaching young people about the importance of health and physical activity, helping them make a positive transition from adolescence to adulthood.
Your qualification will be a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Secondary Health and Physical Education. You’ll be able to teach adolescents from 12 to 18 years of age.
You’ll qualify as a specialist secondary school teacher of both health (including human development) and physical education, with a third teaching area of your choice. This could be business, biology, geography, social education, IT or mathematics (just to name a few).
You’ll learn about the biophysical and behavioural foundations of health and physical education – and how to bring out the best health and wellbeing in your students and communities.
By looking at how people build movement skills, you’ll develop advanced laboratory and field-based skills for sport and exercise science, and be equipped to coach across games, challenges and sports.
Through studying contemporary adolescent development, psychology, and the social and cultural context of education, you’ll have a solid foundation for putting the most effective teaching practices in place. You’ll also gain skills in curriculum planning, implementation and evaluation.
With at least 80 days of professional teaching practice in secondary schools, you’ll get a chance to put theory into practice and a real taste for what teaching looks like out in the field.
This qualification meets the need for leading educators in health and physical education, opening up a number of career options in secondary school, community, recreational and sporting settings.
